It is a one off car that is completely handmade out of aluminium by AC Car Group Ltd
In 1996, planned to produce a limited edition of only 25 AC Cobra’s FIA, built in special order.
Finally, they built only one FIA car. It was a recreation of the 289 powered competition factory team cars that Shelby American competed within 1964 and 1965 FIA events.
It is an original, handmade car with aluminum body. Equipped with 380 bhp strong 4.7 V8 Ford engine with Weber carburetors. Performed in her original colour ‘Viking Blue’. This AC 289 FIA version was issued with serial number COB1001. Presented officially in 1998 at the NEC Motor Show in 1998, COB1001 in a one off : AC Cars Ltd was in financial trouble at the time so they only built one example of the AC 289 MKII FIA.
Adrian Hamilton, became the fist owner of this particular car and then he sold it to a second owner who had it road registered in Germany in 2001.
In 2002, it has been entered to the 2002 Spa 6 Hours race. In 2017, the current owner bought COB 1001 and entered the AC 289 MKII FIA in the Peter Auto 60's Endurance Racing series at Barcelona - April 2019.
COB1001 comes with its FIA Historic Technical Passport period F (1962/1965) which needs to be renew, road registration in Germany and confirmation from AC that it is an original example.
